Brita water filter follow up

I received the following e-mail from Brita yesterday in response to my 2nd e-mail to them:

The technology used in the filters in some countries is different than what is used in the USA. This is why our filters are not considered recyclable. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I'm sorry. This is not an acceptable answer to me. First of all, I'm not sure I buy it. Second, if it's true, what could possibly be the reason for having different technologies in different countries?
Still searching for a different water filter solution...

Debbie, great! I'm hoping that this blog is just like a pebble dropped into a pond sending out ripples. And I'm hoping there are a lot more pebbles like this one.
I just found your blog by google searching for a non plastic water filter (which apparently doesn't exist). For the past few years, I've experienced weird health problems all linked to hormones. It started at age 23 and the Dr's are clueless. I'm starting to think its all tied to plastic because it was around that time that I began drinking from plastic water bottles constantly. I wish there was a better system. I now have to choose between having filtered toxic water or toxic bad tasting semi-permissible toxic water. Your blog looks intriguing. I'm going to poke around in here.
